Splinterlands 8th Anniversary: Dragonkin Cards and a Brand-New Claim Center

Splinterlands 8th Anniversary: Dragonkin Cards and a Brand-New Claim Center

Every few months somebody drops the same question in a Discord: is Splinterlands dead yet? The Splinterlands 8th anniversary is a decent answer, and not a sentimental one. The studio marked eight years on July 28, 2026, then kept shipping through August.

1

Eight years, if you use Splinterlands' own math

Per Splinterlands' own 2026 release notes, the 8th anniversary update is dated July 28, 2026. Its history puts the original launch on October 14, 2018 as Steem Monsters, first packs sold June 1, 2018, per its timeline.

Two Dragonkin cards hit the shop that day, priced as a joke about the number eight: Tenrai, the Epic, at $0.88, and Suiko, the Legendary, at $8.88, plus a new anniversary badge. The notes don't explain the badge's claim mechanic, so we're not inventing one. No source says either card sold out. Treat "gone forever" chatter as chatter.

El Jefe and a saga that keeps eating summoners

The Escalation Conflict is a running saga, one Legendary summoner per element:

  • Archon Meredrool (Fire), May 19, 2026, confirmed

  • Ghezira (Earth), shortly after

  • Grimdave The Unbent (Water), July 21, 2026

  • El Jefe (Life), August 18, 2026, confirmed

Four Legendary summoners, three months, not maintenance mode. We flagged it in our weekly web3 gaming roundup.

The Claim Center is the quietest big deal here

On August 25, 2026, Splinterlands added a Claim Center, centralizing various claims "into one location," in its own words. Which ones? Not stated, and we're not guessing.

Boring on paper, but probably the most telling item here: unglamorous menu work a team only bothers with when it expects players to stick around. Dying games ship cosmetics. Surviving ones fix menus.

Splinterlands hit ninety-six, the average Web3 title barely hits four

A Caladan report covered by DailyCoin on April 28, 2026 found roughly 93% of 3,200-plus Web3 games launched since 2020 inactive or dead: $12 billion-plus burned, 300-plus shut down, average lifespan four months (CoinDesk covered the same research, April 23, 2026). Splinterlands' anniversary, July 28, 2026, works out to ninety-six months against that four-month average. More: our piece on web3 gaming's shutdown rate.

Splinterlands doesn't publish current player numbers, and the DAU figures floating around are from 2021, so quoting them would be worse than saying nothing. See our honest Splinterlands review for the verdict.

Splinterlands vs Stellarch

Concession first: Splinterlands wins on player base, full stop, with eight years shipping through a boom-and-bust cycle no rival can fake. Stellarch hasn't cleared any of that. Closed alpha, waitlist.

Where Stellarch has a real argument

Combat runs on a deterministic seeded-RNG engine: matches replay byte-identically from their seed, so you can re-run a replay and check the outcome yourself instead of trusting anyone's word (see what provably fair means). Unlike Splinterlands, where competing means buying cards, Stellarch's pool is free: draft a full team with no card, no wallet, just an email or Google signup.

Where it doesn't

No live ranked token earning. No crypto withdrawals. No track record. Ask again in 2034.

6

Splinterlands 8th anniversary: so is it still alive?

Yes: a dated release cadence, capped by the 8th anniversary drop, didn't pause for the party. That's the only real evidence. Whether Splinterlands is worth your wallet in 2026 is separate. If provably-fair matters to you, the Stellarch waitlist is open.

Frequently Asked Questions

When was the Splinterlands 8th anniversary?

Splinterlands marked it July 28, 2026, per its own release notes. Its timeline puts the original 2018 launch, as Steem Monsters, on October 14, first packs sold June 1.

What are the Splinterlands Dragonkin anniversary cards?

Two Dragonkin cards added July 28, 2026: Tenrai (Epic, $0.88) and Suiko (Legendary, $8.88), pricing that echoes the eight-year theme, plus a same-day badge.

What is the Splinterlands Claim Center?

Added August 25, 2026 under the Open tab, centralizing various claims into one place. The notes don't say which types were folded in, so any list elsewhere is unconfirmed.

What is the Splinterlands Escalation Conflict?

A saga beginning May 19, 2026 with Archon Meredrool, followed by Ghezira, Grimdave The Unbent (Water, July 21), and El Jefe (Life, August 18), separate from the Dragonkin anniversary release.

Is Splinterlands still active in 2026?

Yes. Four Legendary summoners between May and August 2026, plus the anniversary drop and Claim Center, all in its own notes. It doesn't publish active-player numbers, so nobody can quote a 2026 figure.
