The Ronin Bridge Was Rebuilt. Here Is What Actually Changed for Axie and Pixels Players

Ronin did two things to itself this year, and mixing them up is how somebody loses an NFT for good. First: the chain became a real Ethereum L2, and the Ronin Bridge got rebuilt underneath it. Both done. Neither asked anything of you. Second: Ronin Waypoint, the wallet many mobile Axie and Pixels players use, is being retired. That one has a hard September 30, 2026 deadline, and it hits a narrow slice of players.
Most coverage merged them into one blob of migration news. So here they are, separately.
What happened to the chain and the Ronin Bridge
Ronin spent four years as its own sidechain. On May 12, 2026 it hard-forked into a full Ethereum Layer 2 on the OP Stack, with about 10 hours of downtime while Axie Infinity and Pixels sat frozen, per The Block. The Ronin Bridge swap came earlier, finishing its move to Chainlink CCIP in April 2026.
RON emissions also got cut from 45 million to 5 million a year, according to EGamers.io, token-holder news more than player news.
Here is the part that matters if you just play. Assets in a normal seed-phrase wallet carried across on their own. No action. No claim button.
What changed for Axie players
Your Axies are where you left them. Same address, same NFTs.
The one real cost change most coverage skipped is fees. Mavis Marketplace trading fees reportedly went from 0.5% to 1.25%. Treat that as reported, not confirmed: it comes from a secondary gaming outlet, not a Sky Mavis fee schedule. Flipping Axies at volume? That's the line to check first.
What changed for Pixels players
Pixels usually gets one sentence at the bottom of these pieces. The Auction House deserves better.
Pixels players move RON, WETH and USDC inside the game client, riding Ronin's gas-sponsored transaction model (Sky Mavis documents it here). That flow survives untouched. Settlement moved to the L2 underneath, and the same fee bump above applies here too. Price it into your land flips.
Is the rebuilt Ronin Bridge actually safer
Fair question, given the Ronin Bridge's history. In March 2022 attackers took roughly 173,600 ETH and 25.5M USDC, around $625M at the time, by compromising 5 of 9 validator keys, an attack the FBI attributed to the Lazarus Group (The Block has the timeline). Social engineering, not a contract bug.
CCIP swaps out the Ronin Bridge's trust model rather than patching the old multisig. Transfers clear through a Chainlink oracle network now, with an independent Risk Management Network watching as a second layer. Sky Mavis CEO Trung Nguyen called it "a major unlock for Ronin", and Chainlink Labs' Johann Eid said Ronin "is adopting best-in-class security for cross-chain interoperability."
Both men are selling their own work. Honest read? Safer. The failure surface moved onto Chainlink's operators, it did not evaporate.
The Ronin Waypoint upgrade is a completely different deadline

Ronin Waypoint, the keyless wallet with email and social login used in Axie Classic on mobile and inside Pixels, is being retired and replaced by Ronin Stash, built on Privy. Ronin's own announcement puts the transfer deadline at September 30, 2026, already pushed back once from September 16, and the wording is not soft: assets left behind "will be lost forever."
None of that touches the chain migration or the Ronin Bridge rebuild. Never made a Waypoint account? Log in with a seed phrase? You are fine, and there is nothing to do.
